A miracle created by man with the help of god – THE JET ENGINE

SIR FRANK WHITTLE is considered to be the father of the jet engine.he developed the gas turbine engine in 1930 sharing credit with germany’s Dr.Hans von ohain .The world’s first aircraft to fly purely on turbojet power is HEINKEL HE178

What is a JET ENGINE ?
                              Jet engine is an internal combustion engine that produces thrust with the help of a fast moving exhaust gases through the exhaust pipe or jet pipe .according to newton’s 3rd law of motion “To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction” ,so as the fast moving exhaust gases moves out through the exhaust pipe in the rearward direction, as a reaction the engine along with the aircraft moves forward .

Why is it called “JET” ?
                            A jet engine ia a reaction engine that
discharges a fast moving jet to generate thrust by jet propulsion and in accordance with Newton’s 3rd law of motion .

Different types of jet engines

1.  ROCKETS
2.  PULSE JET
3.  RAM JET
4.  GAS TURBINE ENGINES

Different types of GAS TURBINE ENGINES are
1.  TURBOPROP{used in aircraft operated in low altitudes}
2.  TURBOSHAFT{used in helicopters}
3.  TURBOFAN{used in passenger aircraft}
4.  TURBOJET{used in military and modern aircraft}

PARTS OF A JET ENGINE

  1. COMPRESSOR
  2. COMBUSTION CHAMBER
  3. TURBINE
  4. EXHAUST CONE

COMPRESSOR, COMBUSTION CHAMBER AND TURBINE ARE THE MAIN PARTS OF A JET ENGINE.

OPERATION OF A JET ENGINE
                                              Air enters to the inlet of the engine , it gets compressed with the help of compressors. When it reaches the final stages of the compressor blades the pressure of air inside the engine gets increased and the temperature gets slightly increased .then the compressed air enters into the combustion chamber. Here air fuel mixture is formed ,ignition is given and the air fuel mixture turns to hot gases .then the hot gases enters into turbine{fast moving gases} so the turbine will made to rotate .turbine is connected on the same shaft as the compressor is connected .therefore, the rpm of compressors and turbine will always same .then the exhaust gases enters into exhaust cone ,here struts are provided to correct the angle of exhaust gases{to a streamline flow} to the jet pipe area.therefore we can get maximum thrust .
